Jeremy,

I have seen some people using it and I've used it myself but the problem is that to actually see it you have to purchase something -- probably not what you are looking to do :-)

But I just checked and 1ShoppingCart has some videos on it that may help give you some of the information you want, you can access them the <a href="http://www.shoppingcarttraining.com/shopping-cart/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Upsell Express Videos here</a>.

Hi David,

Do you know of any sites (demo or live) that use 1SC's upsell express so I can get some ideas of how the (up/down sell) pages look?

Hi Barry,

I believe the "base product" can be any product bundled or not, it is the upsell/downsell products that are restricted.

I think I've done that but I'd have to verify that with the person who does this for me.

As far as I know, you can't do any 1SC custom coding for this although the actual sales pages for the up/down sells can be most anything.

1SC has said they will change that as some point.

Can the base product upon which the upsell is based be a bundled digital product? I know the upsell can only be a single product, but is it possible to use a base bundled product for the upsell. The funnel selection page does not allow for the bundle product to be chosen.

As a work around could you pick one of the items in the bundle to the the trigger for the upsell offer?

Has anyone done any custom coding to fix/correct this issue? Is it possible to custom code it? Is there a reason the system doesn't allow you to chose a bundled product as the base for the upsell offer?

Thanks.

Glad to help and what your desire is excellent; I really like the ideas behind it even if I wouldn't have used it, it opens up lots of possibilities.

I am not sure what their internal architecture is, and of course their business goals, but putting in some true workflow type processing would make a lot of things possible, including what you want.

My advice though is to definitely add some type of upsell/downsell processing, as long as the products are nicely related in some way it will increase your revenue and the value of each customer. I've never seen or heard it to fail.

It can be hard to know what is appropriate if the product mix is varied (one of the reasons I generally like to sell one thing at a time from a sales page).

I looked at your site and, assuming, onstagesuccess.com is what you're talking about I can see it might hard given what you sell.

If you could come up with something generally applicable to fans then it would work.

Maybe sell "behind the scenes" videos exclusively via the upsell/downsell process.

I am not sure if this is applicable to the business but maybe sell a live "Ask Tom" tele-seminar/Webinar (or better a series each with a specific topic) with him talking (or being interviewed) and the the ability for attendees to actually ask specific questions live.

That could be applicable to everyone and provide an upsell. Further upsell/downsell could be getting access to the playback of one, transcript, getting access to the entire series, etc.

You can probably figure out what would work better than I can since I don't know anything but I think you get my point.

Good luck,

David

O.Y. I'd love to hear about what you end up doing and how it does.

Thanks, David! I really appreciate your insight. I wasn't sure if I was missing something or not.

The possibility of making it more intuitive sounds reasonable to me, too. IF A, BUT NOT B OR C, THEN....seems like something I learned about coding many, many years ago!

Ah sorry, I understand now.

I am guessing here based upon what I know but I've not tried the situation so I could be very wrong.

I expect that they would see both product B and C in that case because the way it is set up now each order is separate and 1ShoppingCart does not "know" of the previous orders.

Could they do that? Yes.

Will they do that? I've heard some talk about it and you can go into their new forum and submit the request which will get voted on by others like you.

What you could do is settle up 1 "product" that contains A, B and C for a certain price and then create your Upsell Express funnel to exclude B and C but that would only be a stop gap measure for that specific case and wouldn't take into account having an number of combinations of product as part of the original order.

In that case, I don't know how you can guarantee that someone with some combination of products won't see something twice. I guess if you have upsells and downsells that were not part of your available product list that would work.

I may look around and see if I can find anything else about how you might do that and, if so, I'll post it here.

David

O.Y. What's you're wanting to do is a very reasonable situation so you should request it or, if someone else has requested something like it, vote on it.

OK - that doesn't really answer the question I have. We have a small catalog of products. So I'm a consumer (a smart one), and I ordered Product A, B, and C (because they all tie together in some way). But the cart is set up with a funnel triggered by Product A. The Upsell Express then offers an upsell of Product B (I say "no" because I already had that in my original order, and I'm only slightly annoyed. Then downsell of Product C comes up, and now I'm particularly annoyed because that was already in my original order.
So, with a small catalog of products, how annoyed could my customers potentially get with having to click "no, thanks?"

You need to think of each upsell and downsell as an individual orders so there is never any of them in the cart at all.

The difference between the original "primary" product order and the subsequent upsell/downsell orders is that on the original order they have to fill in their billing and payment information but they don't have to enter anything for the other orders they might place; everything acts as a single, individual order.

When they see an upsell/downsell page they have 2 options (other than closing the page altogether :-)

1. Purchase the product on that page (and it is immediately purchased and charged to their credit card)

2. Click the no thanks and see the next page (either another offer or the final thank you page depending upon how you have things set up).

This means that:

1. Once they have seen a page they will not see it again on that order

2. Upsells and downsells are instant purchases and don't have separate upsell and downsell processes, although any other upsells or downsells still in the queue will be shown.

3. Since the order is immediately placed you can offer other products on the cart page or let them use coupon codes.

4. Since each product is an individual order if, later in the process, they change their mind or their credit card is declined (maybe all the purchases now have exceeded their limit) all previous products are already ordered and completed so you will retain those sales.

A bit more than you asked I know but I thought I'd make sure the points were clear.

Thanks!
